“How to Become a Homeowner in a Challenging Market” is the theme of the 15th annual Fort Worth Housing Summit, scheduled for 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. June 23 at Cendera Center, 3600 Benbrook Highway. The summit is free and open to the public.
The event is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, in collaboration with the City of Fort Worth, Fort Worth Housing Solutions and local mortgage lenders, housing counselors and Realtors.
“The Dallas-Fort Worth area is one of the hottest real estate markets in the country at the moment, so it’s critical that homebuyers be informed about the process,” said Beth Van Duyne, HUD southwest regional administrator. “The summit will give them the tools they need, in one place at one time, and will also provide information about programs that may be available to them to assist with down payment and closing costs.”
Scheduled speakers, who will begin a 9 a.m., include:
- Beth Van Duyne, HUD southwest regional administrator.
- Kelly Allen Gray, Fort Worth City Councilmember, District 8.
- J.R. Martinez, Greater Fort Worth Association of Realtors.
- Mary Margaret Lemon, president of Fort Worth Housing Solutions.
Workshops will cover home buying 101, how to get a mortgage loan and down payment assistance and homeownership counseling. Participants can talk one-on-one with HUD-approved housing counselors, mortgage lenders, Realtors and the City of Fort Worth Housing Department.
A box lunch and refreshments are included. Register in advance.
