Glendale, Ariz. –– The city of Glendale invites kids of all ages to discover trucks, finding out how they run, climbingthrough them and exploring the worlds in which they work at the Walmart Transportation Touch-a-Truck event on Saturday,Oct. 21. The free family event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Westgate Entertainment District east parking lot,located at 6770 N. Sunrise Blvd.
Commercial and industrial vehicles will include a SWAT tactical armored truck, postal truck, a Phoenix International Raceway show car, a fire truck, city bus, tractors, dump trucks, backhoes, 18-wheelers, and various city vehicles, including Water Services, Sanitation and Parks department trucks. One new vehicle making an appearance at the event for the first time is the Music Bus, which is essentially a high-tech, air-conditioned music lab on wheels, with instruments inside to teach children piano and guitar lessons. Kids will have the opportunity to explore the inside of the Music Bus, along with all the other exciting trucks and vehicles on display. In addition to the trucks, there arespecial activities including a sand play area, a miniature roadway with toy vehicles called Tiny Tot Drivers and The BigDig where children can try their hand at scooping sand with a contraption that works like a backhoe.
A new element to the event this year will be a Bike Rodeo. Kids ages 5-13 can bring or ride their bicycle to participate. The rodeo will feature a skills training course, bicycle inspection station, bicycle safety tips and helmet fitting. Helmets are required. There will be free helmets available to those that don’t have them, while supplies last. Parents will be required to sign a waiver at the event for their kids to participate.
Admission and parking for this fun event is free! Bring a camera to capture photos of your “crew” behind thewheel. The Walmart Transportation Touch-a-Truck event is produced by the city of Glendale Public Facilities, Recreation and Special Events Department, and presented by Westgate Entertainment District, Achen-Gardner Construction, Bedrock Stone, the Glendale Transportation Department and Arizona trucking Association.
