DALLAS, Aug. 17, 2017 – Jennifer Scripps, Director of the Office of Cultural Affairs, is pleased to announce the appointment of John Spriggins as the Manager of the South Dallas Cultural Center. “The Office of Cultural Affairs is thrilled that John Spriggins is joining our team as the Manager of the South Dallas Cultural Center,” said Ms. Scripps. “Mr. Spriggins brings with him a deep knowledge of visual art, relationships with emerging and established artists, and a strong personal commitment to ensuring that SDCC remains both a community gem and regional leader in presenting a wide array of inspiring programs.” With a wide variety of programs inspired by the vibrancy and diversity of the African Diaspora, the South Dallas Cultural Center seeks to educate and inspire through the visual, media, literary, and performing arts. “I am excited about the opportunity to serve in the community that raised me, as the new manager of SDCC,” said Spriggins. “It has been a lifelong goal of mine to give back to South Dallas using all the education, talents, and experiences that I have been privileged with over the years.” Spriggins will begin on August 30, 2017.
A native of Dallas, Spriggins has an extensive background as a visual artist and arts administrator. Most recently he was the Gallery Director for Richland College (Dallas County Community College District) and was a professor of Art and Humanities at campuses for the Tarrant County and Dallas County Community College Districts. Since 2012, Spriggins has been the Interim Curator for the African American Museum, Dallas and continues to work with the museum on special projects. He has served as a member of the Public Art Committee and the Cultural Affairs Commission for the City of Dallas. He has worked tirelessly with numerous organizations to bring arts awareness to the City of Dallas. Spriggins received his BFA from Texas A&M University- Commerce and his MFA in Humanities from the University of Texas, Dallas.
