NEW ORLEANS — On Thursday, Nov. 1, at 8 a.m., the City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works’ construction contractor, Barriere Construction, LLC, will close the intersection of Maurepas and North Lopez streets to through traffic. The closure is necessary for crews to repair a damaged sewer line at the intersection as part of the Maurepas Street project.
The closure is expected to last for approximately three weeks. Public safety is the City’s priority; residents and commuters are asked to be mindful of construction workers, travel at reduced speeds and use alternative routes.
The Maurepas Street project, which spans Maurepas Street from Gentilly Boulevard to Esplanade Avenue, is a $400,000 project funded by City bonds. Temporary construction impacts should be expected, including limited parking so that crews can perform the work in safe conditions; traffic delays; safety signage; and sounds. In general, construction crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, Saturday work may occur when inclement weather impacts the regular schedule.
The project is scheduled to last through February 2019. The scope of work includes:
- Completing a sewer line repair at the intersection of Maurepas and North Lopez streets, which will require a full closure of the intersection;
- Completing minor sewer house connection work;
- Removing and replacing the top layer of asphalt pavement; and
- Installing new Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at appropriate intersections.
Questions about this project may be directed to the City’s RoadworkNOLA hotline at 504-658-ROAD (7623) or RoadWork.
