Infrastructure Dye Testing Underway

The City of St. Petersburg Water Resources Department is conducting infrastructure dye testing throughout the city to identify cross-connections between stormwater and sanitary sewer systems, starting the week of July 8.

Field teams use an inert, non-toxic, non-staining, water-soluble dye to test the stormwater system. This dye is harmless to the environment, marine life, aquatic plants and humans, but is visibly green in waterbodies.

If you see a bright green discoloration in the water or around a storm drain outlet, don’t be alarmed. This is a normal part of the testing process.

The City of St. Petersburg is committed to the continuous improvement of the city’s infrastructure. This testing is one of the many innovative tactics through which the City is working to make improvements. Questions can be directed to the Water Resources Department at 727-893-7261.
