GLENDALE, Ariz. – Glendale Vice Mayor Lauren Tolmachoff of the Cholla district has been elected as the chair of the Valley Metro Regional Public Transportation Authority (RPTA) Board of Directors. Her appointment will be effective July 1, 2018 for a term ending on June 30, 2019. Tolmachoff has served as Glendale’s representative on the regional transit board since November 2015 and was elected by the board to serve as chair at its June 21, 2018 meeting. Prior to her appointment as chair, Tolmachoff served as vice chair of the board in 2017 and treasurer in 2016.
“Transit is a vital service that impacts the lives of many residents every day,” said Vice Mayor Lauren Tolmachoff. “It is critical to ensure that Valley Metro operates reliable and safe transit services in a financially responsible and sustainable manner that benefits our communities and the region. It is an honor to be selected and I look forward to serving as chair for Valley Metro RPTA during the upcoming year.”
Tolmachoff was also reappointed to the Valley Metro RPTA and Valley Metro Rail Board Member Subcommittee, where she has actively served since 2016. The subcommittee provides feedback and direction to the CEO of Valley Metro.
Valley Metro is the regional public transportation agency providing coordinated, multi-modal transit options to residents of greater Phoenix. With a core mission of advancing a network of transit services, Valley Metro plans, develops and operates regional bus service and alternative transportation programs for commuters, seniors and people with disabilities. The board of directors is comprised of elected officials from 15 cities and towns and Maricopa County.
