Brent Stoddard Appointed to Lead Critical Areas
GLENDALE, Ariz. – Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps has appointed Brent Stoddard to be the city’s new deputy city manager.
“Brent is a valued member of our executive leadership team. Over several years of serving our diverse community, he has developed important relationships of trust with elected officials and staff at the local, state and federal level, as well as business leaders, neighborhood leaders and members of the community,” said Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps. “He has a proven track record of building highly effective teams and supporting them by following the guiding principles of the servant leadership model.”
As deputy city manager, Stoddard will lead the staff in public affairs, which includes internal and external communications, media relations, video production, website management, graphic design, state and federal affairs, support for the Mayor and City Council and special projects.
He will also oversee the staffing efforts for the Mayor and Councilmembers on the state, regional and federal organizations they serve on, including the League of Arizona Cities and Towns, the Maricopa Association of Governments, Regional Public Transit Authority, Arizona Municipal Water Users Association, Luke Air Force Base West Valley Council, West Valley Partners, Westmarc, National League of Cities (NLC), and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
Stoddard joined the city’s Government Relations Department in 2005. He served as the city’s government relations director from 2010-2016 and became the public affairs director in June 2016. He previously worked for the city of mesa in their government relations department. His other professional work experience includes the Arizona League of Cities and Towns, the State of Arizona School Facilities Board and the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics.

Stoddard has a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Brigham Young University, and Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the Romney Institute of Public Management at Brigham Young University. Brent was born in Oregon and grew up in Boise, Idaho. He and his wife Kelly have been married for 19 years and have three daughters.
