Free Training Provides Job Opportunities

City of Miami Celebrates Completion of Wagner Creek, New Affordable Rental Building in the Hospital District(Miami, FL August 16, 2017) –  Having discovered a shortage of licensed security guards in the Miami area, the Office of Mayor Tomas Regalado partnered with Kent Security to offer a free 40 hour Class D Security License Training course. The class began on Monday, August 14th and runs through Friday, August 18th.  Those graduating will be eligible to be State licensed. Upon licensing, Kent Security may offer employment to those participants.  Magic City Innovative District has offered to pay associated licensing and fingerprinting expenses for a cost of $87 per student. Similar training and licensing can cost more than $500.

“In the City of Miami, we have a critical shortage of quality trained private security guards and plenty of jobs available. It’s a simple case of supply and demand,” said Mayor Tomas Regalado.

Kent Security provided the state certified instructor at no cost to the City, and The Little Haiti Cultural Center provided the classroom. Mayor Regalado will visit the class room on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at 3:30 p.m.

“As soon as word got out about the free training, the class immediately filled up,” said the Mayor’s Public Affairs Officer Pat Santangelo.
