Evangel University Chorale to perform in Rome next week - Evangel UniversitySPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University Chorale will be one of the keynote choral ensembles of The Festival Pro Musica E Arte Sacra (The International Festival of Sacred Music) in Rome, Italy, Nov. 14 to 21, 2016.

“This festival includes some of the most outstanding vocal and instrumental ensembles from throughout the world,” said Tom Matrone, chair of the Department of Music at Evangel.

The festival’s program also includes orchestras, choirs and other performers from Italy, Germany, Austria, Russia and Japan.

The 31-member Evangel University Chorale will be the featured choir at the High Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica on Friday, Nov. 18, and then the featured choir at the Festival Concert Presentation on Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Basilica of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva.

“Later that evening, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra takes the stage,” said Matrone. “The trip is a unique opportunity for EU students to experience rehearsals, performances, worship services and the artistic community of Rome.”

The mission of the EU Chorale is to prepare and present only the best of sacred classical choral literature.

Traveling partnership

Evangel is traveling in collaboration with The Continuo Arts Foundation’s Symphonic Chorus, under the conduction of Dr. Candace Wicke, a 1983 Evangel graduate.

Together, these two groups are representing the United States of America.


The Continuo Arts Foundation, based in Westfield, N.J., is committed to making a difference in the lives of individuals, communities and cultures through music.

“The Foundation is known for providing all-encompassing and unforgettable local, national and international musical experiences in concerts, classes, workshops and throughout the education spectrum,” said Wicke.

Dr. Wicke is distinguished as the first female conductor-in-residence at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

She was honored by the Evangel University Alumni Association as its Distinguished Alumnus in 2014.
