A weather (meteorological) station is a facility or equipment system, either on land or on sea, that uses weather instrumentation to measure atmospheric conditions. These measurements can provide information for weather forecasting and are used in the study of weather and climate. Dyacon weather stations are designed to be user-friendly for weather professionals and novices alike.
What do Dyacon weather stations offer? Dyacon MS-100 series weather stations are available in several configurations, with different combinations of sensors for a range of applications. Sensors are available for measuring wind, air temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, soil or liquid temperature, soil moisture, rain, and solar intensity.
Most MS-100 models are also equipped with solar power and an embedded cell phone to support operation and data retrieval in remote locations.
If I have limited experience, could I install a weather station myself? Absolutely. Dyacon designs all of its products to be installed and maintained by the user without technical support. Weather stations can be expanded and reconfigured by the user without special programming knowledge or reprogramming.
All Dyacon weather stations are preconfigured and tested prior to shipment. Weather stations come with all of the hardware required to be mounted to a mast or flat surface as needed. (A rain gauge mounting kit, in the MS-150 model, is for use on the ground.)
For even better performance and flexibility, users can add Dyacon Tripod-1, which provides a stable platform for mounting the weather station on a hilltop, in the backyard, or???¦??at a remote location. (The tripod option is highly recommended for ease of use and optimum sensor performance.)
How easy is it to access data from the weather station? Depending on the version of weather station selected, data are available via text message, web interface (WeatherUnderground.com), Modbus RS-485, or in a CSV log file. Additional information on the specific models and their features is discussed below.
Do Dyacon weather stations include a data logger? Yes. The weather station controller, CM-1, includes all of the sensor interfaces and data logging capability. Most other environmental data loggers require special software, use obscure programming languages, and are difficult to operate. With Dyacon weather stations, all instrumentation data are automatically collected and saved to non-volatile memory. The data can be retrieved using free Dyacon software.
How do I know which weather station is right for me? Different applications call for different weather station requirements, Dyacon offers four weather station models to meet users’ diverse and specific needs:
MS-120???¦??is???¦??configured for applications requiring a direct cable connection to Modbus host devices such as PLCs, secondary data loggers, and computers.???¦??MS-120 includes sensors for air temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed, and wind direction. Internal data logging is also a standard feature.
MS-130 is a basic solar-powered weather station with embedded cell phone. Reports of wind conditions, air temperature, relative humidity, and barometric pressure are delivered by text message directly to the user's cell phone. MS-130 is also compatible with Weather Underground, a web interface for private weather station users.
MS-140 is specifically configured to meet the needs of growers, whether of grain, peaches, turf grass, or anything else. MS-140 complements the standard wind and air sensors with soil moisture and soil temperature sensors. Users can receive weather reports on???¦??a cell???¦??phone via simple text messaging or through Weather Underground.
MS-150 adds a???¦??rain gauge, solar sensor, and submersible temperature probe to the basic wind and air instruments included in MS-130. These provide a full range of measurement capability for serious weather observers. MS-150 can transmit data to Weather Underground and send weather reports as SMS text messages. Like all Dyacon weather stations, data logging is included for those users who wish to build???¦??their own charts.
