On Thursday (Dec.15) the NOPD gave away brand-new bicycles to 120 students at McDonogh City Park Academy. The mix of pre-K and kindergarten students received the new rides as part of the fourth annual bicycle giveaway in the First District, which includes the Treme and Mid-City neighborhoods.
Officers from the Fourth District spread some holiday cheer at Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary School on Wednesday (Dec. 14) as they handed out toys and games to more than 50 students in pre-K, kindergarten and first grade. The students were the recipients of items collected during the Fourth District’s annual toy drive.
The Fourth District, which includes the Algiers neighborhood, holds the toy drive each year and distributes the gifts to schoolchildren throughout the district.
And this past weekend, the Eighth District held a second line and tree decorating party with students from KIPP McDonogh 15; officers in the Third District hosted a pancake breakfast and toy giveaway for dozens of students; and officers in the Sixth District gave away 80 brand-new bicycles to students at its annual event.
NOPD isn’t done yet. Additional tidings of holiday spirit are planned over the next week.
