Carrollton, Texas – The City of Carrollton has a full lineup of free fall events from September through December on the Square in Historic Downtown Carrollton (1106 S. Broadway Street). It’s the season for free two steppin’, movies, concerts, yoga, and Carrollton’s signature event, the Festival at the Switchyard, all with family-friendly, community-centered fun. The fun continues with a concert tribute to America’s heroes in November, and Santa on the Square and the Carrollton Snow Globe photo opportunity in December.
Step on the Square, Saturday, September 8, 6-9 p.m.
Enjoy an evening under the stars to kick off another season of food, fun, and music for the whole family. The action begins at 6 p.m. with two-step dance lessons interspersed with songs from the hardest hittin’ country rock band in DFW: Big City Outlaws.
The band will jump the fence from country to top 40 all night long, and have crowds two stepping and line dancing to an array of classic hits. The event includes great food and beverages for purchase from area food trucks, such as funnel cakes, potato swirls, corn dogs, sausage on a stick, fried Oreos, fried Snickers, iced tea, and lemonade.
Movies on the Square, Saturday, September 29 and October 27, at Sunset
For an evening of galactic adventure and comedic vampires, Carrollton is showing two movies on the Square this season. The first, Thor: Ragnarok (2017), PG-13 on Saturday, September 29, finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) imprisoned on the planet Sakaar, locked in a deadly contest of gladiators on the far side of the universe. Pitted against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger, Thor must survive to race against time to stop Ragnarok, the destruction of his home world, Asgard, at the hands of the powerful and ruthless villainess, Hela (Cate Blanchett).
Then, on Saturday, October 27 at 6:30 p.m., start the Halloween season off right with a mini-pumpkin giveaway, pumpkin painting, and a fall craft, followed by an 8 p.m. screening of Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015), PG, winner of the 2016 Kids’ Choice Awards for favorite animated movie. The hotel has now been open to humans for seven years and Dracula (Adam Sandler) is worried about his half-human half-vampire grandson who is lacking in vampire abilities. Drac decides to enlist his friends to help in a “Monster-in-training” boot camp for his grandson but runs into an unexpected visitor that could soon turn things upside down.
Yoga Digest Fest, Saturday, October 6, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Come out and celebrate the community, make new friends and share in spreading a mindful and healthy lifestyle with the entire family. Join Yoga Digest for a variety of yoga classes and offerings including crystal bowl meditation, an all-levels yoga class, doga, acro yoga, Ayurveda, aerial yoga, an essential oils class, and more. In addition, enjoy a vendor village with plenty of sips and eats, shopping, sampling, and activities from Henna tattoos, chair massage, arts and crafts, live music, and more. The event is hosted by Yoga Digest and sponsored by the City of Carrollton.
Concert on the Square, Saturday, October 6, 6-8 p.m.
The More Love Band will get you on your feet and dancing with their up-tempo beats and remarkable vocals. Plan for a night of classic ‘80s hits and a memorable performance. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to enhance your listening experience. Food trucks will be available for both concerts to satisfy the hungriest of music lovers.
Festival at the Switchyard, Saturday, November 3, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The 9th Annual Festival at the Switchyard is a free family-fun event that honors the critical role the railroad played in putting Carrollton on the map and the continuing importance of rail in Carrollton’s present and future. Bring the whole family to enjoy free live entertainment, free rides and games, and free activities for children of all ages.
Nationally known rock bands, Vertical Horizon and Tonic, will open the show for headliner Stone Temple Pilots, one of the most popular rock bands of the ‘90s and early 2000s. They are known for their powerful rock ‘n’ roll songs like “Interstate” and “Creep.” Local bands, to be announced in the coming weeks, will warm up the crowd.

Vibes for Vets, Saturday, November 10, 4:30-7:30 p.m.
Veteran performer Dillon Myers will bring his country tunes to the stage with an afternoon of music in tribute to America’s heroes. Myers is a rapidly rising country artist with roots in Dallas. Join us for a day of music and remembrance for all military service members.
Santa on the Square, Saturday, December 8, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Grab your running shoes and a Santa hat for a fun and festive family event. The Kids’ Santa Dash will have your little ones running with glee as they chase Santa through the streets of Historic Downtown Carrollton. Register by Friday, November 30 for $12 or pay $15 on race day. Check-in is from 9:30-10:15 a.m. and the Dash starts at 10:30 a.m.
Parents are welcome to participate with their registered children. Wagons and strollers are also allowed. All participants will receive a special gift from Santa upon completion and the opportunity for early access to photos with Santa after the run.
Stick around for the free event that includes a picture with the big guy inside the Gazebo on the Square and a chance to see a live reindeer. Also, take care of that Christmas shopping list in the Downtown shops and boutiques or grab a bite to eat at one of the many eclectic restaurants.
Carrollton Snow Globe, Saturday, December 15, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Visit Historic Downtown Carrollton to take a photo inside the Carrollton Snow Globe. This 15-foot inflatable globe is a fun experience for all ages. Bring your own photographer for this unique holiday experience. Weather permitting.
