Douglas Wiersig, director of the Transportation & Public Works Department since 2011, announced he will retire at the end of October.
An interim director will be named. A nationwide search for a replacement will be conducted.
Weirsig holds three degrees in civil engineering: a bachelor degree from the University of Nevada at Reno, a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
In more than 30 years in public works, Wiersig held executive positions with the City of Houston, the City of Dallas and Cobb County, Ga. He taught civil engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington and served for seven years as manager of infrastructure programs at Jacobs Engineering.
