Development and permitting fee increases become effective October 1

City of Austin Texas Development ServicesEffective October 1, 2016, the Development Services Department will implement new fees and fee increases that align with the full cost of providing development and permitting-related activities.

The new fee structure, adopted by the Austin City Council as part of the 2016-17 Budget, impacts Site and Subdivision Review and Inspections, with minor changes in Tree Review, Building Inspections, Zoning, and other development-related services.

This year the department introduced its Service First Initiative, which steered implementation of various customer service improvements, such as expansion of customer wait areas, deployment of a remote sign-in service to reduce counter wait time, added online permit payment services, developed an interactive web portal (Smart Start) to assist small businesses with the development process, deployed customer exit surveys, automated tree inspections, and contracted with a third-party to support on-time building plan reviews.  This fall, the department is poised to launch “ePlan”, which will modernize the development process by allowing electronic submittal and review of development plans.

The Development Services Department is responsible for providing development plan review, building permit issuance, and site and building inspection services to Build a Better Austin Together.
