Rerouting will be in effect June 20-22
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Starting Wednesday (June 20) at 6 a.m., Pikes Peak Avenue will close between Prospect Street and East Colorado Avenue to facilitate the installation of new underground utilities and roadway work associated with the Pikes Peak Avenue Reconstruction project. The detour is expected to last for approximately three days.
All detour routing will be managed by traffic control signs and devices. Motorists will be directed to detours using alternate roads:
· Eastbound Pikes Peak Avenue traffic will be diverted to South Prospect Street to East Colorado Avenue and reconnect with Pikes Peak Avenue at East Colorado Avenue.
· Westbound Pikes Peak traffic will be diverted from Pikes Peak Avenue to East Colorado Avenue, then to South Prospect Street and back to Pikes Peak Avenue.
· Parking on South Prospect Street or East Colorado Avenue will not be permitted during the closure.
All work is weather dependent and schedules are subject to change.
The Pikes Peak Avenue roadway and its utilities are 60-100 years old. Reconstruction will improve safety and travel by creating a smooth road surface as well as new water, gas, and sewer lines.
