Intersection of Pikes Peak Avenue and Hancock Avenue closed
Begins November 8 through mid-January
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Beginning Thursday, November 8, at 8 p.m. the intersection at Hancock Avenue and Pikes Peak Avenue will close. The section of Pikes Peak Avenue between Hancock Avenue and S. Institute Street will remain closed to facilitate the installation of the new underground utilities and roadway work associated with the Pikes Peak Avenue Reconstruction project.
All detour routing will be managed by traffic control signs and devices. Motorists will be directed to detours using alternate roads:
· Eastbound Pikes Peak Avenue traffic will be diverted to N. Institute Street to E. Platte Avenue to N. Union Boulevard and then back to Pikes Peak Avenue.
· Westbound Pikes Peak traffic will be diverted to N. Union Boulevard to E. Platte Avenue to N. Institute Street and then back to Pikes Peak Avenue.
· Institute Street will reopen for north and south traffic.
The detour is expected to last for approximately 2 months. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
The Pikes Peak Avenue roadway and its utilities are 60-100 years old and reconstruction will improve safety and travel by creating a smooth road surface and replacing water, gas, and sewer lines.
