My wife and I sat down for an evening to watch a movie or two. Our first choice was Black Swan with Natalie Portman. After all, it had won and been nominated for several awards and had great praise from people all around.
As the movie started, I thought alright, I can sit through this and see what all of the fuss is about. However, from nearly the beginning of the movie, I knew that I was in for something that I hadn????????t signed up for. Initially, I thought it was a chick flick, but my wife didn????????t even like how dark this movie was.
I could have handled the movie if it was just dark. However, the main character was disturbing. The mother was disturbing. I waited throughout the entire movie to see what people were seeing in the Black Swan.
I guess that I am just not up-to-date on the artistic genre of a movie. I could see the in-depth view and get inside the disturbing mind of this particular ballerina (are all ballerinas like this?), but it just wasn????????t for me. Admittedly, there were times in the movie where reality and dreams merged in her head.
The movie was done well in my na????ve view. But, it definitely was not for me. In this case, neither was it for my wife.
Black Swan is not a movie that I would see again. It was not the type of movie I like and it was just plain disturbing.
