Utah Olympic Oval hosts the Southwest Regional Competition
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 16, 2013 – – The Olympic Oval in Kearns will host the CrossFit Games Southwest Regional Competition May 31- June 2, 2013. The Southwest Region is packed with talent and the Oval will be packed with spectators to watch the Regional Competition go down in Utah.
Returning Team Champions Hack????????s Pack, of Ute CrossFit in Sugarhouse, is trying to become the only team to repeat as CrossFit Games Champions. A second win would confer on them the title of Fittest Affiliate on Earth for a second year. The athletes of Front Range CrossFit are determined not to let that happen. The cross-border rivals from Colorado are bringing a very strong team that traded 1st and 2nd place finishes on all 5 qualifying Open workouts with Hack???????? Pack Ute.
Matt Chan of Colorado, the second fittest man on the planet, is back this year to make a run at the two time defender Rich Froning. At 35 Chan is one of the older competitors in the field, but he is known for training smart. Chan will be one of the athletes to watch at this year????????s Regional event.
The Peoples champ, Chris Spealler of Park City, will be attempting to become the only person to compete in every CrossFit Games since its inception in 2007. The qualifying process becomes exponentially harder every year as the sport grows and the talent pool gets deeper. Spealler????????s only podium finish came is 2010 when he came in 3rd place. He is always the smallest athlete in the field, but is an experienced competitor with a big heart and a perennial crowd favorite.
