Colorado Springs hosts 2018 U.S. Paralympics Track Cycling National Championships Dec. 8-9 at the Olympic Training Center Velodrome

More than 40 athletes are expected to compete for national titles as they eye Tokyo 2020

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – With less than two years until the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, more than 40 Para-cyclists will take to the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center Velodrome this weekend in search of national titles. Athletes ranging from emerging talent to reigning Paralympic champions will be competing. The event begins at 10 a.m. on Dec. 8 and 9, and is open to the media and public.

WHAT:
2018 U.S. Paralympics Track Cycling National Championships

WHO:
More than 40 Para-cyclists, ranging from Paralympic champions to emerging athletes, including:

  • Joe Berenyi: Two-time Paralympian and four-time Paralympic medalist, including one gold, two silver and one bronze. Competes and medals among able-bodied competition. Reigning national champion in the men’s C3 kilo time trial, pursuit and team sprint.
  • Shawn Morelli: Two-time Paralympic champion at the Paralympic Games Rio 2016, including gold in the women’s C4 track pursuit. The Army veteran has 13 world championship medals, which includes 11 golds. She is looking to defend her national titles in the women’s C4 pursuit and 500-meter time trial.

WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 8 (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.) and Sunday, Dec. 9 (10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.)
