City Releases ‘ResultsNOLA’ 2017 Mid-Year Performance Report

the City urged all New Orleans residents and businesses to get prepared and stay informedNEW ORLEANS – Today, in keeping with his commitment to improve efficiency and effectiveness in City government, Mayor Mitch Landrieu released the ResultsNOLA 2017 mid-year performance report. This report includes results from more than 350 performance measures that align with Mayor Landrieu’s strategic priorities of public safety, sustainable and resilient communities, economic development, healthy children and families, and open, effective and innovative government.

“When we took office in 2010, we made a strong commitment to make sure City government was more efficient and transparent so that residents could hold us accountable,“ said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “This mid-year report allows us to see what goals we have reached and what areas we must continue to work on. Together, we have made great progress and this report highlights what we have done to improve the quality of life for all New Orleanians.”

The easy-to-understand report shows that City organizations met or exceeded a majority of performance targets.

Highlights in the ResultsNOLA 2017 mid-year report include:

Public Safety

  • Median response time for emergency police calls was below 5 minutes and 40 seconds during both the first and second quarters of 2017.
  • The number of days lost to firefighter injuries among New Orleans Fire Department staff is down nearly 50 percent compared to the second quarter of last year.

 

Sustainable Communities

  • The percentage of City streetlights functioning is at the highest levels since Hurricane Katrina, with almost 99 percent functioning during the first half of 2017.
  • The Department of Parks and Parkways carried out more than 11,000 acres of mowing across the City over the past two quarters.
  • More than 2,600 clients received health care services through the City’s “Health Care for the Homeless” program.
  • More than 80 percent of capital project milestones, excluding roads, were completed on schedule during the first half of 2017.

 

Jobs

 

  • Across all departments, the percentage of City contracts awarded to disadvantaged business enterprises (DBE) was above 35 percent during the first and second quarters of 2017 which exceeds the 35 percent goal.
  • 725 individuals have been employed through summer youth employment programs in 2017.

Since taking office, Mayor Landrieu has committed to dramatically improving the accountability, transparency and performance of New Orleans City government. In January 2011, Mayor Landrieu created the Office of Performance and Accountability (OPA) to better City services through data-driven decision-making and accountability for delivering results to citizens.

OPA submits regular reports on the City’s progress. In addition to the ResultsNOLA report, the office developed a series of monthly STAT programs, or data-driven performance review meetings, for key initiatives.

Earlier this year, the American Society for Public Administration Center for Accountability and Performance recognized the Office of Performance and Accountability with an Organizational Leadership award for national leadership in performance analytics. Also this year, the International City/County Management Association Center for Performance Analytics, recognized ResultsNOLA with a Certificate of Excellence – the organization’s highest honor – for the fourth year in a row.
