The City of Pocatello Finance Department is earning praise for its budget.
Recently, the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) honored the department with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. According to GFOA, the accolade “reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.”
“It takes a lot of time and effort to put together the City’s budget,” said Mayor Brian Blad. “I truly appreciate the work done by the Finance Department and the rest of the City staff, and I’m happy to see their efforts recognized by GFOA.”
In order to receive the award, the City of Pocatello had to meet nationally recognized guidelines for the budget presentation that are designed to determine how well the budget serves a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories and in fourteen mandatory criteria within those areas.
Last year, the department received GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for their efforts on the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for Fiscal Year 2016. Fiscal Year 2016 was the 13th year in a row the department won the award. Additionally, the Finance Department has been honored for 12 years in a row by GFOA with the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting.
