City of Miami offers free swim lessons for National Water Safety Month

Third Annual Water Safety and Drowning Prevention
event at Grapeland Water Park this Saturday

(Miami, FL May 17, 2018) – May is National Water Safety Month and the City of Miami will be hosting the Third Annual Water Safety and Drowning Prevention Event at Grapeland Water Park. As part of our Safe City Initiative, residents will enjoy safety demonstrations and receive information on services, classes and safety measures to prevent drowning and water related accidents. At 11:00amthere will be a presentation that includes the inauguration of the Swim Lesson Voucher Program from Commissioner Willy Gort.

Child drowning facts:

  • In 2017, Florida had more child drownings than any other state
  • The 51 child drowning deaths are a 20% increase over 2016
  • 80% of last year’s drownings involved children under age 5

* First 800 attendees to arrive before 10am will receive free admission to Grapeland Water Park for the day! *
