Free family-friendly movies at South Broadway Cultural Center will be the perfect way to beat the heat August 8-11Sing (Aug. 8), Moana (Aug. 9), The Secret Life of Pets (Aug. 10) and Finding Dory (Aug. 11) will be screened in Spanish at 11:30 a.m. and in English at 1:30 p.m.

WORLD LION DAY AT THE ZOO

Join the annual celebration to raise awareness for lion conservation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.on Thursday, Aug. 10 at the ABQ BioPark Zoo. Learn about the problems lions face in their natural habitat, listen to a lion keeper chat, watch Dixie and Kenya enjoy enrichment activities and find out how your actions matter in helping these amazing animals.

DOWNTOWN SUMMERFEST

Civic Plaza in downtown Albuquerque is the place to be on Saturday, Aug. 12from 5 – 10:30 p.m. Enjoy local music leading up to national headliner Dennis DeYoung and the Music of Styx. Shop the market of handmade goods crafted by local artisans, enjoy free children’s activities, sip on some local brews in the Microbrew Garden and grab a bite from food trucks. Summerfest is free.

BEST OF 2017 48-HOUR FILM PROJECT

See the local stars of stage and screen during the Best of 2017 48 Hour Film Project at the KiMo Theatre on Friday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. This year’s winners will be announced. This red carpet event will be capped with an awards ceremony where the team that will represent Albuquerque at Filmapalooza will be announced. Tickets are $10-$11.

ROCK 101 CONCERT IN OLD TOWN

The talented young musicians from Rock 101 NM Music Academy will perform at the Old Town Gazebo from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20. Rock 101 is a year round music program that caters towards aspiring musicians of all skill levels. The Rock 101 Academy is built upon a curriculum that will not only helps students’ musical abilities but also their educational learning. Admission is free.
