City Issues Property Tax Reminders

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the City of New Orleans issued two important property tax reminders. Today, January 31, 2017, is the payment deadline for 2017 property taxes. Residents received their initial property tax bill reminders in mid-December. Additionally, in the December 2016 election, voters in Orleans Parish approved property tax millages for fire protection and drainage and on Thursday, January 26, 2017, the New Orleans City Council adopted the millage ordinances. The City will send out a supplemental property tax bill to residents in the spring of 2017.

Residents are strongly encouraged to pay their property taxes online, by mail or at City Hall. City Hall will extend its hours today, accepting payments until 6 p.m on January 31, 2017. For customer convenience, the City will provide a drop-off lane at the Perdido Street entrance to City Hall today, until 4 p.m. All other payments—submitted online or by mail—must be submitted or postmarked on or before January 31, 2017, to receive timely credit.

Residents may view and pay their property tax bill online by visiting http://www.nola.gov/pay-taxes/ and select “Real Estate Property Tax.” To pay online, residents will need their tax bill number. The city encourages paying online, there are two choices of payment method:

  • eCheck (no convenience fee, requires checking account and bank routing number)
  • Credit/Debit Card (2.49 percent processing fee, even for Debit cards).

Online payments must be submitted on or before January 31, 2017, to receive timely credit.

Residents may also mail a check, along with a payment stub from their property tax bill, to P.O. Box 60047, New Orleans, LA 70160-0047. Please be sure to write the tax bill number and property address for the tax bill on the face of the check and include the payment stub. Mailed payments must be postmarked by January 31, 2017, to receive timely credit.
