City Attorney Wynetta Massey recognized as Local Government Fellow by International Municipal Lawyers Association

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – City of Colorado Springs City Attorney Wynetta Massey was named a Local Government Fellow by the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) at its 83rd annual conference in Houston, Texas. There were eight attorneys who the designation of Fellow was bestowed upon on Thursday, October 18.

Since the program began in 1999, only 84 attorneys in the United States and Canada have received this designation, including three practicing attorneys in Colorado.

“I am honored to serve the City of Colorado Springs and humbled to be able to practice law with the skilled and caring attorneys and support staff of the City Attorney’s Office. This recognition is a testament to the many mentors, colleagues, City employees, and elected officials I have had the good fortune to work with through the years.”

Massey is a longtime member of the City’s legal team, having worked in a variety of progressively responsible roles over the past 28 years, including deputy city attorney and legislative counsel to city council. In 2014, she was named Outstanding City Attorney of the Year by the Metro City Attorneys Association.

“Wynetta Massey is among the most capable and knowledgeable attorneys I’ve had the pleasure of working with,” said Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers. “Ms. Massey brings a great legal mind and an extensive understanding of municipal law to city operations each and every day.”

The Local Government Fellows Program, which first began inducting fellows in 1999, recognizes attorneys as legal specialists in the field of local government law and encourages attorney proficiency and competency in the local government legal field. The full list of fellows can be found on the IMLA website: imla.org/network/local-government-fellows-program#imla-fellows.

The IMLA is a non-profit, professional organization for local government attorneys that has championed the development of fair and realistic legal solutions and assisted members on current pressing legal issues since 1935.
