SAN DIEGO — Working to help reaffirm their commitment to its employees and the larger San Diego community, today Cisterra Development Chairman Steven L. Faulconer, City Councilmember Chris Cate and many other elected, civic and business leaders from around the region to celebrate the groundbreaking of Cubic Corporation’s new global corporate headquarters in San Diego.
Bradley H. Feldmann, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Cubic Corporation said,“Cubic has been headquartered in San Diego for six decades and we remain very proud of our roots. Our culture is driven by innovation and a philosophy we refer to as One Cubic, which emphasizes collaboration across our businesses to share ideas, strategies and expertise. We are thrilled our new campus will bring together our San Diego employees onto one centralized location where we can continue to achieve excellence through teamwork.”
Steven L. Black, Chairman, Cisterra Development said, “Iconic companies deserve iconic campuses. There is no doubt for any San Diegan that Cubic sits at the forefront of technology and innovation for San Diego. Over the years, we’ve enjoyed developing world-class spaces for iconic companies, so we’ve made sure that this campus will set the bar for our future workforce and future Cubic innovations.”
Mayor Kevin L. Faulconer, City of San Diego, “San Diego is a city with a reputation for cutting-edge discovery and innovation thanks to groundbreaking companies like Cubic who are pushing the envelope and changing the world. Cubic’s decision to build its new campus and global headquarters here is further proof that our city offers the right environment for innovative companies to grow and thrive. Cubic is one of many San Diego success stories and we look forward to its continued future growth and success for many years to come.”
President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins, California State Senate said, “Cubic is a home-grown San Diego success story, and the state has a program – the California Competes Tax Credit – that partners with our businesses so they can expand, innovate, create jobs and grow our economy. I’m thrilled that this program will help Cubic create 300 new, well-paid jobs and continue to be our success story.”
City Councilmember Chris Cate, City of San Diego said, “Cubic Corporation’s new global headquarters campus is an investment in its employees and our San Diego community. Cubic thinks not just for today, but for tomorrow, by investing their time, and talents into STEAM education for our future workforce. With more than 6,000 employees, Cubic will be a welcomed community partner in District 6 filling employment needs for the City of San Diego.”
Dr. Nikia Clarke, Executive Director, World Trade Center San Diego said, “Cubic is responsible for seamlessly moving millions of people throughout the world’s biggest cities daily. From London to Sydney to Frankfurt, Cubic is a prime example of how San Diego’s life-changing innovation is powering our global economy. We are looking forward to the company’s next chapter as they continue to expand and grow in San Diego.”
After more than 60 years in the City of San Diego, Cubic Corporation has grown from a small electronics company into a technology-driven, market leading and publicly-traded, global company that employs more than 6,000 employees worldwide. As a result of this rapid growth, Cubic Corporation will construct two 125,000 square-foot, three-story buildings, which will serve as the new campus and corporate headquarters on in San Diego, California. The two buildings will modernize the office, research and development spaces as well as consolidate its workforce into one main campus as opposed to two separate locations.
Selected as the developer last June via Jones Lang LaSalle, Cisterra Development has worked closely with Cubic, Ware Malcomb (the architect), and Whiting-Turner (general contractor) to plan the design, permitting, pricing and coordination of the project. Together, the trio has worked closely with Cubic to plan the construction activities, while the current campus continues to operate.
The project involves significant utility relocation, grade changes, traffic realignment and temporary facilities. The project first involved the abatement and demolition of the existing Cubic Building 1, which will make way for the new buildings and the relocation and protection of utility lines. The development team will also renovate Cubic Building 2, which will allow employees to relocate from Cubic Building 1.
The new Cubic campus will include new lighting and a parking lot with a field of solar panels as well as electric vehicle charging stations. The new campus will also contain new landscaped common areas for employees, including a basketball court and open lawn, as well as a new café and fitness center.
