Celebration June 20 for bike, pedestrian improvements downtown

Pikes Peak Avenue improvements “Link the Loop” as part of downtown master plan

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo— The public is invited to a ribbon cutting and community bike ride June 20 to celebrate the completion of pedestrian and bicycle improvements downtown. The installation of bike lanes on Pikes Peak Avenue completes the “Link the Loop” project that enhances the City’s network of safe connections for people on foot and bike through the downtown core and to the Legacy Loop trail system.

WHAT: “Link the Loop” Ribbon Cutting and Community Bike Ride

City and Downtown Partnership officials to make short remarks and cut the ribbon as riders depart on a short community ride along the soon-to-be-complete “Link the Loop” urban bike trail along Pikes Peak avenue downtown. Ice cream will be served.

WHERE: Pikes Peak Market, 315 East Pikes Peak Ave.

WHEN: 4 p.m., Wednesday, June 20

DETAILS: Short community bike ride through downtown and on the Legacy Loop trail system. For a longer ride, join Pedals and Pints Community Ride or the UpaDowna Pedal Party ride both occurring downtown that evening. Don’t forget a helmet.

This and other roadway projects support the Experience Downtown Master Plan and achieve one of its goals of “a walkable and bike-friendly center connected through safe and accessible multimodal networks, as well as accomplishing aspects of other plan goals such as creating “a place for healthy and active lifestyles,” “celebrating and connecting with outdoor recreation and exceptional natural setting,” and “integration with adjacent neighborhoods.”

Bike Month continues in June and there are many great events and activities recognizing the importance of bicycling in the community. The City of Colorado Springs invites residents to get involved by participating in activities supporting Colorado Bike Month.

Bike to Work Day is June 27. Stop at breakfast locations along the trail network and at several local businesses throughout Colorado Springs.
