LEGO® Challenge – September 5

College & Continuing Education Fair – September 6

Learn about college and university admission requirements at the Carrollton Public Library’s College and Continuing Education Fair on Thursday, September 6 from 4:30-7 p.m. at Hebron & Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Lane). Representatives from more than 20 universities and colleges will be there to discuss everything from the cost of tuition and qualifying for financial aid to alternative routes in continuing education. University panelists will also be present to discuss things like dorm life, deciding what undergraduate major and minor to pursue, and seeking financial aid. Start your weekend off right with boot camp on the Downtown Carrollton Square (1106 S. Broadway Street) Saturday, September 8 from 7:30-8:30 a.m. This FREE all-levels fitness boot camp taught by Camp Gladiator instructors is held the second Saturday of each month. Break a sweat and stretch it out with yoga on the Downtown Carrollton Square (1106 S. Broadway Street) Saturday, September 8 from 9-10 a.m. This FREEall-levels yoga class is held the second Saturday of each month. Whether you’re new to yoga or a long-term practitioner, this class is designed for everybody. Wear comfortable clothing that is not too loose and bring a water bottle and mat. Pooch Pool Party – September 8

Say goodbye to the dog days of summer at the 15th annual Pooch Pool Party on Saturday, September 8 from 1-4 p.m. at Rosemeade Rainforest Aquatic Complex (1334 E. Rosemeade Parkway). Admission is $5 per dog but free for humans. The Carrollton West Pet Hospital will be on site from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. providing free rabies vaccinations, and Carrollton Animal Services will be offering free on-site City pet registration. The brand new 2019 Carrollton Pet Photo Calendar will also be available for $10. All calendar proceeds benefit the Carrollton Animal Services & Adoption Center (2247 Sandy Lake Road). Boards & Commissions Applications Accepted through September 10

Applications are still being accepted for the 2018 Boards & Commissions appointments in October. City government depends on residents who volunteer their time and expertise as members of boards, commissions, and committees. By lending a more diverse viewpoint for the City Council to consider, their actions help shape and influence public policy. Citizen involvement is vital in setting the direction for Carrollton’s future. Community Garage Sale Applications Due – September 10

Browse through local booths to find that next hidden treasure at the Community Garage Sale on Saturday, September 15 at Crosby Recreation Center (1610 E. Crosby Road) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Carrollton Residents can rent a space for $25 and non-residents for $27.50. Each space is 10’x10’ and includes one table and two chairs. Applications are available at Rosemeade Recreation Center (1330 E. Rosemeade Parkway), Crosby Recreation Center (1610 E. Crosby Road), and the Senior Center (1720 Keller Springs Road). Jelly Ellington & Straight Tequila Night Join 2018 Festival at the Switchyard headliner Stone Temple Pilots.

Singer-songwriter Jelly Ellington and country cover band Straight Tequila Nights join openers Vertical Horizon and Tonic and headliner Stone Temple Pilots for Carrollton’s 9th Annual Festival at the Switchyard on Saturday, November 3 in historic Downtown Carrollton (1106 S. Broadway Street).

Ellington brings his mix of smooth and soulful sound for an untamed, blues-based rock ‘n’ roll performance that’s sure to excite the crowd. Straight Tequila Night will take the stage following Ellington, and is sure to have festival-goes two-stepping to all the greatest country music hits from the ‘90s and beyond.

The Grammy® award-winning band, Stone Temple Pilots, is sure to rock the 2018 Festival at the Switchyard. The group’s debut album, Core (1992) featuring hits such as “Plush” and “Wicked Garden” was a huge success, making it to number three on the Billboard Top 200 chart. STP went on to sell more than 35 million albums worldwide with the release of Purple (1994), Tiny Music (1996), No. 4 (1999), andShangri-la Dee Da (2001). Now, more than 25 years later, the band has shifted lead vocals to Jeff Gutt, a veteran of the Detroit music scene.

The City of Carrollton ranks third among cities with comparable populations in a Best Suburb of the Dallas-Fort Worth Area survey conducted by Niche, a review site for schools, colleges, and cities across the nation. Residents gave Carrollton a four-star rating out of five and an A rating overall. The City earned an A+ in diversity and received an A in public schools, health and fitness, and in being good for families.
