Burke selected as NMSU’s new senior vice president for administration and finance

Andrew Burke will be New Mexico State University’s new senior vice president for administration and finance, effective July 17. NMSU Chancellor Garrey Carruthers announced the appointment earlier today.

“Dr. Burke is very bright, very congenial and will serve the university well,” Carruthers said. “In particular, he has an outstanding reputation among his former colleagues at Doña Ana Community College as a collaborative leader.”

Burke served in various positions at DACC for 30 years before retiring in 2014. Burke served longest as DACC’s vice president for business and finance where he was administratively responsible for not only business and finance but also facilities, information technology and human resources. He also served twice as that campus’s interim president and chief executive officer. During his last year at DACC as interim president, the college completed a self-study report for the Higher Learning Commission comprehensive site visit and subsequent institutional accreditation.

“I am ready to work with the NMSU community to ensure effective services and operational efficiencies are provided in the areas of administration and finance in support of the students, faculty and staff across the university system,” Burke said, “while at the same time, working along with other administrators to be a good steward of the financial and physical resources of this incredible institution of higher education.”

Burke was raised in Las Cruces and graduated from Las Cruces High School. He originally started as an accountant at DACC in 1984. He has a bachelor’s in business administration with honors from NMSU, a master’s in accounting and recently earned an Ed.D. in educational administration, also from NMSU.

Burke replaces NMSU Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance Angela Throneberry who announced her retirement, effective Aug. 1. Throneberry has worked for the university for the past 25 years.
