BPU Named “Company of the Year”, Gold Stevie Winner by American Business Awards

The Board of Public Utilities (BPU) was recently presented with the Gold Stevie Award for “Company of the Year – Large Utility Category” in the 16th Annual American Business Awards (ABA). The ABA’s are the nation’s premier business awards program, with a panel of judges recognizing BPU for its overall success as an organization and its on-going commitment to the community it serves.

BPU received this top industry honor based on results in several areas including Environmental Stewardship, Financial Performance, Customer Service, Communications and Transparency, and Community Giving. Specific utility achievements included sourcing 45% of its power generation from renewable energy sources, a recent Credit Rating upgrade, continued community support through its vibrant Summer Youth Program, and creating an online portal for customers to track utility usage amounts and trends.

“BPU is especially pleased with this honor as it recognizes the success of our entire organization, the services we provide, the management of this publicly-owned utility, and the positive impact we are making throughout the community,” stated Don Gray, General Manager for BPU. “Our Board of Directors, management team, and dedicated employees are committed to growing and sustaining this utility and our community, working hard every day to make a difference, just as BPU has done for the last 100 years.”

The New York Post has called the ABA Awards the “business world’s own Oscars”. More than 3,700 nominations were received this year from companies of all sizes, and in a variety of categories.

More than 200 professionals participated in the 2018 judging process. Other winners included some of the nation’s most respected organizations, including Marriott, American Express Travel, and the U.S. Army.

An Awards Gala announcing this year’s winners was held in New York City on June 11th. For more information, go to www.StevieAwards.com.
