||El Paso County, CO, June 21, 2021 – El Paso County Parks (EPCP), in partnership with the Pikes Peak Pickleball Association (PPPA), are proud to announce the Bear Creek Pickleball Courts Grand Opening. The event will take place this Saturday, June 26th, at 9 am at Bear Creek Regional Park.
PPPA is a local non-profit 501(c)3 organization incorporated under the authority of the Secretary of State of Colorado for charitable and educational purposes to enhance the health and welfare of the general public by organizing, promoting, and helping to grow the sport of pickleball in El Paso County by:
- fostering participation in local amateur pickleball activities
- easing the administrative and fiscal burden on local governments
With the help of PPPA, El Paso County Parks renovated four worn-down tennis courts into twelve modern outdoor pickleball courts. PPPA provided El Paso County with a funding amount of $100K and applied for an El Pomar grant for $20K which was also provided as part of the project funding.
What is pickleball?
Considered the fastest growing sport in America, pickleball is a two or four player paddleball sport which combines elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis. The game is played on a tennis type surface less than half the size of a regular tennis court. Each player utilizes a paddle to hit a ball over the net, attempting to score points against the other team.
This latest addition to EPCP’s long list of county amenities is a welcome addition for the community and sure to offer citizens of all ages a fun activity for years to come.
