“As you wish” the Town celebrates the Recreation Center’s 30th anniversary

Are you a member of the Breakfast Club? Do you know where the holy grail is hidden? The 1980s was the era of neon fashion, Terminators and Rubik’s Cubes. In Town, 1988 was also when the Castle Rock Recreation Center opened. Don’t be left saying “I think we’re alone now,” and come join the celebration at Castle Rock Rec’s Totally Awesome 80’s Party.

Break out the Aqua Net, fishnet stockings and slap bracelets, and join the festivities from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11. Come dressed to impress. There will be prizes for the best ‘80s costumes. Capisce?

The fun starts in the parking lot. All the hungry, hungry hippos will be treated to free hot dogs, chips and a drink. Asking yourself, “Where’s the beef?” Don’t worry, there will also be food available for purchase. Plus, don’t miss the real-life A Team and Ghostbuster vans. Holy macanoli!

Admission into the Recreation Center will be free. Check out arcade games, pinball machines and MTV music videos in the lobby. Take a Bob Ross painting class, or let the kids enjoy ‘80s-themed arts and crafts. Plus, learn the “Thriller” dance, or, if you have the power, compete in a dodgeball game in the gym.

Hey, you guys! Don’t forget to bring a swimsuit and towel for the Flick and Float. “The Goonies” will be playing by the lap pool starting at 6:15 p.m. And, don’t miss the ‘80s selfie immersive experience. This event will be so much fun, you’ll be asking everyone, “Won’t you be my neighbor?”

The Recreation Center was originally dedicated Oct. 8, 1988. However, the facility has been expanded twice since then. Today, more than 1,000 people visit the Recreation Center daily. Come get nostalgic, and celebrate the history of the Recreation Center as the Town looks back to the future of Parks and Recreation.
