Soil Health Workshop with Soilutions
Saturday, April 1st, 9: 30am – 12:00pm. FREE! Join us for a hands-on workshop with Jim Brooks of Soilutions as we explore ways to improve the health of poorly-performing soil. Jim will discuss how to improve soils in areas of low-organic material and clay. These techniques can be utilized for both the home garden and for small-scale agriculture. After the talk, you’ll have the opportunity to use the techniques yourself. Space is limited. Please call 897-8831 to register.
Bosque Wild: Guided Nature Walk
Sunday, April 2nd, 9:00am – 10:30am. FREE! The Middle Rio Grande river valley is nature’s laboratory with a different lesson plan every season. This is a moderately strenuous guided hike through one of the largest riverside-cottonwood forests in the world and along the banks of the Rio Grande. Bosque Wild is a great way to set the tone for your Sunday. Space is limited. Please call 897-8831 to register.
Dragon and Tiger Medical Qigong
Sunday, April 2nd, 1:00pm-2:00pm and Sunday, April 23rd, 1:00pm-2:00pm. Improve health and energy in seven simple movements with instructor Marcy Pincus, Energy Arts Certified Instructor. Dragon and Tiger Qigong is useful to help ease the pain of chronic illness. Class fee is a suggested $5.00 donation. A portion benefits the Open Space Alliance. Space is limited. Five Keys Qigong
Sunday, April 2nd, 3:30pm-4:45pm. Qigong is a gentle martial art with a variety of health benefits. This basic Qigong class includes exercises that are safe for all ages. Instructor: Marcy Pincus. Workshop for Beekeepers: Varroa Mite
Saturday, April 8th, 1:00pm – 3:00pm. FREE! Learn about the Varroa mite and its effect on local honeybee populations. Limit 15 people, adults 18 years and over only, please. Novice beekeepers welcome, but bring your own beekeeping veil protective gear. Space is limited. Please call 897-8831 to register.
ONGOING: Germination: Mosaic Artists of New Mexico
Ongoing through May 28th, 2017. Get lost in a colorful forest of majestic mosaics. Weave through these three-dimensional pieces and breathe in the artists’ fresh interpretations of the germination theme. The exhibit will run through May 28th, 2017. The Open Space Gallery is free, and is open to the public Tuesday-Saturdays 9am-5pm.
ONGOING: Rachel Zollinger’s Object of Vertu
Ongoing through May 28th, 2017. In the Open Space Visitor Center Reception Area. Artist Rachel Zollinger finds beauty in the “trash” found on public land. These items have been ravaged by weather and decay, and yet they stand proudly, poised to tell their stories. The exhibit will run through May 28th, 2017. The Open Space Gallery is free, and is open to the public Tuesday-Saturdays 9am-5pm.
Lions and Hikers and Bears, Oh My!
Saturday, April 15th, 1:00pm – 3:00pm. FREE! U.S. Forest Service Wildlife Biologist Daryl Ratajczak teaches about bear and cougar behavior and what to do to stay safe while travelling through their habitats. Space is limited. Please call 897-8831 to register.
Joyful Noise Earth Day Celebration! with Author Paul Fleischman
Saturday, April 22nd, 1:00pm – 3:00pm. FREE! An interactive reading of Joyful Noise: Poems for Two Voices, a book of poetry for children by Paul Fleischman, followed by a family-friend craft activity. The book is a collection of fourteen children’s poems about insects such as mayflies and honeybees and won the 1989 Newbery Medal. The presentation will be a chorus of joy for all ages. ABQ Recycled Art Fair
Saturday, April 29th and 30th, 10:00am – 4:00pm. FREE! Announcing the 8th Annual ABQ Recycled Art Fair hosted by the City of Albuquerque Open Space Visitor Center, with 6 live local bands and DJs to entertain. This year will include 40 NM art vendors, a youth market, educational activities and displays, and two fun contests. In honor of Earth Day. GO GREEN!
Yoga with a View, Sundays at 9:00am
Begin Sundays with an invigorating YOGA session at 9:00am. Your first class is $5, subsequent classes are $15, and if you buy in bulk, they’re even less. Class fees include a donation to the Open Space Alliance.
About the Open Space Visitor Center: The Open Space Visitor Center is an interpretive hub for the Open Space program, lands, and resources. Visitors enjoy educational exhibits, art displays, wildlife fields, a Traditions garden, Bosque trails, and a variety of talks, workshops, demonstrations and entertainment. The Open Space Visitor Center is located at 6500 Coors Blvd. NW between Montaño Rd. and Paseo del Norte at the end of Bosque Meadows Rd.
