Another Former Utah Championship Alumni Wins on PGA TOUR

Utah Championship Alumni Collect 9th Win in 13 Tournaments in 2011

Salt Lake City (Mar. 28, 2011) – Past participants of the Utah Championship, Utah’s only official PGA TOUR event on the Nationwide Tour, continue to make their mark on the PGA TOUR. Martin Laird, yesterday’s winner of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Country Club, is the most recent Nationwide Tour and Utah Championship alumni to win on the PGA TOUR in 2011. Laird’s win yesterday marks the ninth time in thirteen tournaments that a Utah Championship graduate entered the winner’s circle on the PGA TOUR this year.

Just four months after Jhonattan Vegas placed second at the Utah Championship, he took home a PGA TOUR victory at the Bob Hope Classic in Palm Springs, California. Other notable Utah Championship alumni to win on the 2011 PGA TOUR include Bubba Watson, Aaron Baddeley, D.A. Points, Mark Wilson, Nick Watney, Johnson Wagner and Gary Woodland, who competed in front of Utah’s crowds last year along with Vegas.

To date, twenty-two (22) of the top fifty (50) players in the Fed Ex Cup points have played in the Utah Championship, including seven of the top ten. The Nationwide Tour continues to gain significant credibility. PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem recently proposed that all 50 PGA TOUR cards could come from the Nationwide Tour.

“The Utah Championship is excited to see its former players have such tremendous success on the PGA TOUR and it is a real testament to the world class golf being played each year at the Utah Championship,” said Mike Smith, the event’s tournament director.
