Additional funding will assist veterans

The City of Fort Worth, along with six area organizations, have been awarded grants from the Texas Veterans Commission.

The General Assistance Grant awarded to the City of Fort Worth will fund the Forward Home program, which provides assistance with rent, mortgage and utilities for up to six months to prevent veterans and their families from becoming homeless. This is a returning program from last year when the city was also awarded the General Assistance Grant.

The Housing for Texas Heroes Grant will fund the city’s Healthy Homes for Heroes program, which provides health/safety and accessibility modifications to eligible veteran homeowners. This is a pilot program that will provide much-needed services.

Other funds that will be used to provide services to veterans and their families in the North Texas area were awarded to Community Learning Center, Catholic Charities, United Way of Tarrant County, Presbyterian Night Shelter, Recovery Resource Council and Tarrant County.
