After a long bike ride and all of that exercise, there is nothing better than getting a refreshing treat at a local shop, even if it is an overpriced ice cream cone. What do you expect from a little artist colony across the bay from San Francisco?
While we were waiting for the ferry to take us back to the wharf at San Francisco, we strolled down the main waterfront street in Sausalito. There were some great galleries to browse and some other interesting shops. But, we were on the hunt for an ice cream cone where we didn????????t have to wait in line for 20 minutes.
We passed the main ice cream shop with a huge line hidden inside. On the other side of the road, we spotted the Winship Restaurant with a big ice cream sign in the window. That looked like it might be the ticket.
After making our way across the street and into the Winship Restaurant, we discovered how efficient busy places need to be. There wasn????????t a lot of time for checking out the flavors. They were ready to take our order within 30 seconds from entering. Within 5 minutes, we had our cones and back on the street heading back to the dock to catch our ferry.
What did I get from this short visit to Sausalito? That it is a great little town tucked away in Marin County and just across the bay from San Francisco. Because of the proximity to the big city, there are tons of people visiting and it can get crowded. Not a bad thing, but you need to be ready for ??????efficient?????? service. (Read quick and sometimes rough.)
Winship Restaurant is located at 670 Bridgeway, Sausalito, California (415) 332-1454 (www.wanships.com)
