8 things not to miss in April at Burlington City Arts!

1. Opening Reception for Spring Exhibitions set for April 13
Experience Vox Populi and From Across the Distance: Works From The Barjeel Art Foundation
Opening April 13, BCA debuts two new contemporary exhibitions. From Across the Distance features video work of three Arab artists who imagine urban capitals during past, present, or future moments of political and social instability. From Across the Distance is guest curated by Dr. Sarah Rogers and courtesy of the Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah. Vox Populi captures and reflects the inner psyche of artist and viewer through a diverse range of contemporary portraits. The opening takes place from 6-8 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

2. BCA Community Arts Fund Seeking Applications Until April 16
Applications must be received by Monday, April 16, 2018.
Burlington City Arts Community Fund is seeking applications for one-year funding of up to $3,000 for Burlington-based practicing artists, creative professionals or small arts organizations to develop projects that engage and connect the community and address community needs, challenges and priorities through the arts.

3. Curator Talk: Dr. Sarah Rogers
Held at the BCA Center, 135 Church Street • Free Admission
Dr. Sarah Rogers will reveal insights about the artists Adel Abidin, Lawrence Abu Hamdan, and Larissa Sansour featured in Across the Distance, as well as discuss contemporary artistic practice in the Arab World and the important role of the Barjeel Art Foundation’s collection. Talk will begin at 6 p.m.

4. SoundCheck
Presented in partnership with The Young Writer’s Project.
This month’s workshop/open mic on April 12. Plan to join us at 6 p.m.and bring a friend! Public readings start at 7 p.m. at the BCA Center. Admission is free.

5. A+D Film Series
All films are shown in Contois Auditorium at City Hall.
Join BCA and A+D Film Series on April 18 for the showing of Five Seasons: The Gardens of Piet Oudolf. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the film begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

6. Family Art Saturday
Free and fun art activities for the whole family.
Get creative and make art together on April 21! Families are invited to drop-in to the BCA Center and create an original work of art using materials inspired by our exhibition artists.

7. The Art of Storytelling
Storytelling is useful for presentations, networking, job interviews, and family events – learn the necessary skills on April 5.
Join Recille Hamrill on April 5 and learn how to master the art of storytelling. The evening includes a workshop followed by open mic. Admission is $10 and benefits the great programs at BCA.
