Statement from Mayor Pro Tem Monica R. Alonzo on residents facing eviction from HMK properties

City of Dallas Texas“Earlier today, the Dallas Housing Finance Corporation Board voted to allocate $300,000 to assist West and southern Dallas residents facing evictions from HMK properties. This would not have been possible without the hard work of Catholic Charities. Volunteers with the organization spent recent weeks surveying HMK residents to assess and address their needs and formed a comprehensive action plan for affected tenants to access these funds.

“Thanks to Catholic Charities and the Housing Finance Corporation Board, my constituents who are facing eviction will have access to housing options in addition to employment services, income support and financial coaching, among other services.

“Our goal has always been to take care of our residents in West and Southern Dallas. They deserve clean, safe and affordable housing, as well as opportunities for education and employment. In furtherance of this effort, I will be hosting a Housing Fair on April 1at the West Dallas Multipurpose Center. At the fair, we will present housing options for any residents impacted by the HMK closure notice.”
