CHEYENNE – Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr on Thursday applauded the efforts of Governor Matt Mead for entering into an agreement with Amazon to collect tax on its sales to Wyoming consumers and businesses.
“This is great news,” Orr said. “It is increasingly difficult for brick and mortar stores to compete with the online competition. Today’s news helps to level the playing field.
“Small businesses aren’t asking for special favors,” she said. “But they do expect competition to be fair. This is a step in the right direction.”
Orr said there’s more work to be done by the Wyoming State Legislature to pass legislation which would require the collection sales taxes from all remote venders but was encouraged by today’s announcement.
“One step at a time,” Orr said. “I’m very grateful to Governor Mead who understands the plight of the small business person in today’s digital age.”
