NEW ORLEANS – Officers in the Sixth District arrested Gerard Lawless (DOB: 11-04-79) on August 4, 2018, for aggravated assault, felon in possession of a stolen firearm and possessing crack cocaine and heroin.
Sixth District Task Force officers spotted the suspect at the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Willow Street allegedly arguing with a victim, and as the officers approached Lawless he attempted to run on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers. Officers learned Lawless reportedly struck and then threatened to shoot a victim.The arrested suspect kept reaching for his waistband during the struggle with officers.
Officers were able to apprehend Lawless and located a small handgun in his waistband. Through the course of the investigation, officers discovered that Lawless was previously convicted for battery on police officers, aggravated flight from officers and convicted for felon in possession of a firearm.
Officers also located a small amount of crack and heroin at the time of his apprehension. As the investigation progressed, officers also learned that the recovered handgun was reported stolen during a car burglary in the Seventh District in December of 2017. It was also determined that Lawless was currently wanted for a parole violation.
