Three things have happened in the last several weeks which have started me thinking about Area-Info.net and how the site plays a part in social media. These came about by a chamber meeting which I attended, a conversation with a small business owner and hearing of successes from a few of the contributors.
The Chamber Meeting
As I was listening to the BuzzBoosters in Logan, Utah, the universe began to align in my head (the “aha” moment). They were discussing ways to get your name out into the world using facebook, ustream, twitter, linkedin, youtube etc. and the strategies to help you place high in the searches of google.
The “aha” moment is that Area-Info.net is one of these places to use to help you show up higher in the search engines. For example, if you search on “avengers is more super than supermoon logan Utah” (3 of the top 5) or, “Byron Hernandez logan Utah” (3rd listing), you will see that the top links take people to Area-Info.net.
As part of your social media strategy, you need to be using Area-Info.net to help you market your services. Do this in such a way that you become the expert on the subject and the resource where people want to go for questions.
Small Business Owners
What is perhaps the biggest constraint a small business owner has? With my conversations, it has been “time.” They don’t feel that they have the time to do some of the necessary things to market their business. (Personally, I think that is why so many resort to advertising sales and coupons, but that is another topic.)
How much “time” does it take to use social media to market your business? You have probably noticed that some people are constantly on social media sites; others are very sporadic; and, others may have hired someone to do their social media. But, what do you need to do?
As a small business owner, you want to keep your name in front of people (marketing) in the most cost effective way. I feel the most difficult part of this is creating the strategy you want to use:
What do you want to add to facebook regularly?
What do you want to send to Twitter followers?
What can you add to Area-Info.net regularly that will benefit your business? How often do I need to update my accounts?
When talking with business owners, they are thinking that they need to plan hours throughout the week for updates. However, I would suggest that after you have your strategy planned out, you could commit as little as 30 minutes per week to your social media efforts. A facebook update takes just a minute or two. Twitter is a quick note. Area-Info.net is a quick addition.
Bottomline: Make your plan and use the social media to help market your business. What you write today in social media has a life of five years.
There have been a number of contributors coming on board to share news, reviews and events on Area-Info.net. Many of them have enjoyed great success with readership. Others have seen their efforts turn them into a valuable resource for readers who have come to them for purchases, additional questions and visited websites mentioned by their stories.
Contributors have shared a few stories with me about the successes they have experienced.
One has shared valuable information about the benefits of precious metals in today’s world. In his columns, he talks about reasons that it is important to own precious metals; what causes the prices to fluctuate, etc. From his articles, he has seen at least three significant orders for precious metals. The only relationship he has had with these people is through his columns. He has become a valuable and trusted resource to his readers.
Another contributor wrote about a video for a university which had been on Youtube for nearly 12 months. During this time, the video had approximately 2,400 views. However, after he wrote a short article about the video and included a link to the video. During the next few days, there was a 25% increase in the views on this video.
It is 2012 and your business needs to include Social Media in its marketing plan. Does that mean to leave your tried and tested marketing efforts behind? Not necessarily. However, now is the time to retool your marketing plan to integrate Social Media. Area-Info.net can be an important tool to help you achieve new and exciting goals with your online efforts.
