LOGAN, UT — In partnership with Logan City and Stokes Nature Center, The Cache Valley Center for the Arts will present the second annual EARTH DAY DOWNTOWN on SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 2012 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on 100 South (Between Main Street and 100 W). The Earth Day Downtown Street Festival will include: entertainment, music, arts activities, food vendors, hands-on environmental activities and booths for local environment & sustainability groups, Logan City, USU clubs, Local Gardeners Market, Buy Local Businesses, and more. The emphasis of this event is to inspire people to participate, no matter how big or small.
“We are excited to see this event develop into an annual celebration” said Wally Bloss, executive director of the Cache Valley Center for the Arts. “When it comes to the earth, we should all take the time to celebrate what we are doing right. It is a special day because our decisions today will have impact on our enjoyment of tomorrow. This event celebrates our local community, offers ideas and tools to excite change, and just have fun.”
Earth Day provides an opportunity to embrace the world we live in and find out how we can all serve as better stewards of the planet and its resources. Earth Day only happens one day a year but it is an opportunity to educate and engage the community. If the arts can help inspire change and engage creative young minds, the future is well worth it!
In conjunction with this event, Logan City will provide an opportunity for the public to drop off their e-waste. Electronic waste includes: Batteries, cameras, cell phones, circuit boards, complete computer systems, CPU (tower), docking stations, external CD-ROM drives, external modems, fax machines, printers, L.C.D. flat screens, laptops, microwaves, monitors, palm pilot or other handheld devices, scanners, slide projectors, stereos/speakers, telephone systems, televisions, typewriters, VCR/DVD Players, video recorders, and more! Please no household hazardous waste, audio/video tapes, DLT tapes or floppy discs. In cooperation with this event the Logan Downtown Alliance is celebrating Earth Day by staying open late and hosting a Film Festival. Enjoy Downtown all day long with two great events.
As part of the festivities on April 21, 2012, Stokes Nature Center and CVCA will have a special community art project using scrap material/cloth and a junk jam parade. To participate in the parade you will want to bring something to play or create your own “junk” inspired instrument at the art table.
Demonstrations will be offered throughout the day. Leecia Bloss will provide ongoing “plarn” demonstrations. Learn how to upcycle your plastic bags by making plastic yarn. The Magic Productions Stage will include performances by Sassafras, Dry Lake Band, Uncommon Collective, Katie Jo, and Tim Pearce and Ryan Boyce. Entertainment includes performances by An Tus Nua Irish Dance Company and Valley Dance Ensemble will have a creative children’s movement workshop.
