2,000 Volunteer Positions Available for the 2012 Tour of Utah! Viewed 73,399 times

Local organizing committees and host cities for the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah are looking to fill 2,000 volunteer positions this year for the August 7-12, 2012 professional cycling event.

Not only do many cycling fans find this to be the best way to get close to the action, it is also the best way to guarantee a commemorative Tour of Utah T-shirt. This year the Tour will thank volunteers with additional merchandise, including a collapsible lunch tote and collapsible water bottle. EnergySolutions, the presenting sponsor of the volunteer force, will also make sure each of you receive sunscreen and water throughout race week.

Early registration is focused on two areas--week-long volunteers and individual stage course marshals. Five of the six stages are road races, and these will require daily personnel to assist with course safety for the athletes and the spectators at either the start or finish host venue. The only exception will be stage 2, which is a Team Time Trial on a closed course at Miller Motorsports Park; marshals are not needed currently for that day.

For anyone who can commit to a full six or seven days with the Tour of Utah, volunteer positions are available for the entire race. While course marshal positions are the highest need, additional support will be needed with the Geigerrig Lifestyle Expo and teamgive Pedal Power Festival activity areas adjacent to the race finish lines. In the comment area of the volunteer application, individuals can request a specific assignment for the week. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, and are required to sign a waiver.

The Utah Sports Commission is assisting the Tour with volunteer coordination. The Commission views willing volunteers as its most valuable resource. Volunteers will not only receive the personal satisfaction of helping make this internationally-sanctioned stage race a success, but you will also gain a unique, behind-the-scenes perspective into a major cycling event.
