Your Family History Starts in Oklahoma

Genealogy is one of the fastest growing hobbies in the United States. Oklahoma encourages family history researchers and will host the first-ever Family History Expo in Oklahoma City on April 11. The oneday event will offer rare access to professional genealogists and historians. Exhibitors there will keep participants up to date on the latest techniques and technology to trace their roots.

“There’s so much exciting history in Oklahoma and we couldn’t be happier to hold our debut event there this year,” Family History Expos President Holly T. Hansen said. The Expo, April 11, will be held at the Oklahoma Historical Society, 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive, Oklahoma City.2 © 2012 Family History Expos, Inc. – PO Box 187 – Morgan, UT 84050 -- www.FamilyHistoryExpos.com

For eight years Family History Expos has traveled throughout the United States holding similar events to encourage people to climb their family trees. Hansen said the company’s new strategy includes offering their services to more family history enthusiasts than ever before at a more affordable price.

The National Institute for Genealogical Studies and FamilySearch have partnered with Family History Expos as major sponsors of every 2012 event to make the quest possible. Hansen said her company is
responding to a soft economy, “We know people are stretching their dollars as far as they can and we want everyone to get the information they need.”

Keynote Speaker Arlene Eakle: ‘Your Family History Starts Here’

Arlene H. Eakle. Phd., president and founder of The Genealogical Institute, Inc., will open the show with a keynote address in the Chesapeake room at 10:30 a.m. She will focus on a speech entitled, “Your Family History Starts Here! How to Apply the Research Process to Your Genealogy.”

Eakle is a professional genealogist with more than 30 years’ experience in research, consulting, lecturing, and writing. An expert in tracing families from New York, Southern U.S., British Isles, Switzerland, and parts of Germany, she claims a 96 percent success rate. She will also present at 2 p.m. in a class entitled, “Migration Records and Sources Specific to the Old South.”

“Our industry experts are people with years and years of experience who are delighted to assist family history and genealogy researchers in breaking down the brick walls blocking paths to their pasts,” Hansen said.

Other presenters will offer classes and workshops throughout the day including Philipp M. Mayer, author of Freedom in Architecture, 4 Decades of Pueblo’s German Club, and Genealogy Presentations. He has
25 years research experience and has developed a unique process to organize, manage, and present genealogical information.

Billy Dubois Edgington will present on “The Miller Roll Applications: A Source for Cherokee and Southern History.” Edgington has a bachelor of arts degree in history from University of California Irvine. She has more than 40 years of research experience. Edgington co-authored Vital Information from the Guion Miller Roll and authored African-Cherokee Connections.
