Fortune 500 company leader Bernie Gracy will kick of the Illinois Family History Expo Aug. 3, 2 p.m. at the Crowne Plaze Springfield, 3000 South Dirksen Parkway.

Gracy, an avid genealogist, is the external technical officer and vice president of business development of Volly™ at Pitney Bowes. In addition to his work at Pitney Bowes, Gracy is a partner in the AncestralHunt.com website. AncestralHunt.com is based in Connecticut. The software company has created a breakthrough member-driven, geo-spatial collaboration environment. The technology allows genealogists and family historians to break down brick walls and create deeper insight into their ancestral origins.

“Not only is Bernie a great business man and a pioneer of genealogical technology, he is also a wonderful and warm individual,” Family History Expos Founder and President Holly T. Hansen said. “He will without a doubt get this exciting expo off on the right foot.”

The two-day Illinois Family History Expo will feature the nation’s top genealogists and researchers. The keynote address is free to the public, as is an exhibit hall filled with professionals demonstrating the techniques, tools and technology to trace family roots.

“We are facing a whole new frontier and it is thrilling to be an explorer in this new age. Every day new technology evolves to help make the job of discovering our roots faster, easier, and more accurate,” Hansen said.

Professional presenters will offer courses throughout both days to paid registrants. Course materials are available for study as soon as registration is complete. The materials are designed to help absorb materials during the class, and to serve as reference documents after.

Arlene H. Eakle, PhD, is president and founder of The Genealogical Institute, Inc. She will be on hand to share more than 30 years of experience researching, consulting, lecturing and writing. Her specialties include tracing families from New York, the Southern United States, the British Isles, Switzerland, and parts of Germany.

Professional researcher, blogger, and author Ruby Coleman will also present at the Illinois Family History Expo. With more than 26 years as a professional genealogist, she specializes in Nebraska and plains states research.

Hansen will close the event with Her Personal Research Magic. She will then award prizes to grand prize drawing winners. Through Family History Expos Hansen has helped thousands understand the techniques and technology to trace their roots. She received a bachelor of arts in history from Weber State University, Ogden, Utah and is an author, lecturer, and former editor of Everton’s Genealogical Helper magazine.

Two day registration is $69 prior to the opening of the expo and $99 at the door. Participants can register for one day only for $59. Individual classes are also available for $20 each.

This event is sponsored in part by Family History Expos, Inc., FamilySearch, and the National Institute for Genealogical Studies.
