Oppostion to a North American Union still needed. Viewed 75,167 times

Why did I write a letter in opposition to economic, political and military integration or convergence of USA, Canada & Mexico to U.S. Senator Mike Lee, tonight?

There has been a continuing process underway through several administrations to bring about "convergence" of the USA with Mexico and Canada. A fantastic claim? Not if you study the history of it from George Herbert Walker Bush's administration, through the William Jefferson Clinton administration as NAFTA gained acceptance, then through the George W. Bush and Obama administrations.

As I wrote to Senator Lee: “March 23, 2005, President George W. Bush met with Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin and the then Mexican President Vicente Fox in Waco, Texas to discuss plans for a North American Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP).

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was the economic underpinning for closer and deeper economic integration of the three nations. In 2004 Council on Foreign Relations member Robert A. Pastor pointed out in FOREIGN AFFAIRS that 'NAFTA was merely the first draft of an economic constitution for North America.'Senator Lee, the idea of merging the USA with Mexico and Canada under any new, supra-national constitution is a treasonous idea threatening to our country’s continued independence and to our unique Constitutional system."

Still writing to Senator Lee I pointed out that such an economic integration is a stepping stone towards POLITICAL UNION. Council on Foreign Relations member Professor Robert A. Pastor has long championed a NORTH AMERICAN COMMUNITY something like the EUROPEAN COMMUNITY, as a step in a process toward a NORTH AMERICAN UNION like the EUROPEAN UNION. While President of Mexico, Vicente Fox, on May 16, 2002, speaking to Club XXI in Madrid, Spain, said: “Eventually our long-range objective is to establish with the United Sates, but also with Canada, our other regional partner, an ensemble of connections and institutions similar to those created by the European Union.” This is a serious statement of intention by a president of Mexico to cooperate with others to build a political union between three countries. Such a political union would undermine our Country’s constitutional system to build such a union.

Now we see the top military leaders from the U.S., Leon E. Panetta; from Mexico ,General Guillermo Galván Galván, the Mexican Secretary of Defense; and Peter MacKay, Canada’s Minister of National Defense meeting in Ottawa for their “inaugural trilateral meeting of North American Defense Ministers.” This set of top ministers meeting outside of U.S. Congressional, or the Canadian Parliament’s, or the Mexican Congress’ direction, constitutes ministers putting together their own designs probably at the request of President Obama, and his counterparts in Canada and Mexico; an integration step being taken in a gradual process of unification of nations such as took place in Europe. Our military should keep its integrity as an American institution rather than becoming part of an integrated supra-national military force with too deep of international cooperation.

Further, I recommended to Senator Lee that he “Please read the attached News Release ‘Inaugural Meeting of North American Defense Ministers Joint Statement.’” Then, I attached a copy of the
“ U.S. Department of Defense News Release No. 213-12, March 27, 2012” which can be found at this website:

THE NEW AMERICAN magazine's October 2, 2006 issue contained an article by Dennis Behreandt, "CREATING THE NORTH AMERICAN UNION" that described the plans for a North American Security and Prosperity Partnership and the steps being take toward a North American Union. His warning is still worth reading as the Obama Administration approaches the upcoming North American Leaders Summit. Internationalists from one administation to the next continue their plans as if nothing changed from president to president.
